Season Rollover Checklist

19 May

Is it that time of year again? Getting ready for a new season may seem like a big project, but check out the quick checklist below to stay on task.

Ask yourself the following questions

Are there any new venues in your area this season?

If so, add them from the master menu now using add-edit-delete venue. For help on adding venues, check out the tutorial here.

If you're a league, are you waiting on a new set of teams to register for the new season?

If so, consider checking to "remove previous season's active teams" so that your leagues can start fresh with brand new teams. Historical data will remain archived on the public site. Add new teams using GOALLINE's online Team Registration or, from each league's menu, select manage teams. For help on managing seasons, check out the tutorial here.

Are your team rosters remaining the same next season?

Common with adult organizations or teams, rosters that remain more or less the same each year can keep players assigned into the new season by selecting the "keep active season rosters into the new season" check box when in Manage Seasons. Otherwise, players and coaches are released from their teams, to be reassigned in the next season. For help on managing seasons, check out the tutorial here.

Not sure what to name your season?

Pick a name for your season relative to the year or time of year and year together. "Spring 2014" and "2014-15" are examples of recommended season names. Remember not to use the word season here. For help on managing seasons, check out the tutorial here.

Are you between seasons, looking to start setting up?

If so, select a season date range that starts on or before today (remembering that the seasons can't overlap). That way, you'll be able to start adding teams to your leagues, accepting team registrations, and assigning players to teams. Other date range tips include ending your season after any type of play (regular season or playoff) will be over. For help on managing seasons, check out the tutorial here.

How many schedules will you need?

Using Manage Schedules from the master menu, add all known schedule types you'll use for the season. These are most commonly "Regular Season," "Exhibition," and "Playoff." Check to apply the schedule to all to save time. For help on managing schedules, check out the tutorial here.

Are you using online registration?

If so, archive last year's registration form by editing your form and, if not already expired, select a closing date of today or sooner and edit your form. Follow the steps to archive and even copy your old payment options so minimal work is required to update prices and date sensitive information for you new season. For help on archiving your registration information, check out the tutorial here.
