Create Referees

Creating referees can be done in a variety of ways including manually creating referees one at a time, importing referees (bulk) or through online registration. When importing referees or using online registration, referees will need to be edited to provide them with qualifications. Qualifications are used when editing assignments so that only qualified referees display to assign for any given position in any given league.

To create referees, the following information is required:

  1. First Name
  2. Last Name
  3. Date of Birth
  4. Email Address

It's important to note that the email address used by a referee must be unique - referees can not share an email address. If you have referees in your association who share an email address, advise them to create a second email address. Using their personal email program's tools, more than one email address can be checked at a time, so families looking to keep track of assignments can still receive the emails the system will send.

To create your referees:

  1. Create referees one at a time or import referees
  2. Set Assigning Qualifications for each referee
  3. Generate passwords

Special Considerations When Creating Referees:

  • Expiration dates for referees – Referees will no longer be able to login to their control panel after the set expiration date. They can no longer be assigned to games past this date.
  • Assign a region if applicable - Regions can apply to assignors, venues and referees. The feature can be enabled by contacting support@goalline.ca. It's a great tool for breaking up a large geographic area where your leagues play across various regions.
  • Certification Level - Referees can be assigned a label for their certification level. When labels are applied to your referees, you can use Find Referees to search for referees with a certain certification level. *New* Certification levels can be used to automatically set referee qualifications (FAQ article coming soon!).

Other than first name, last name, date of birth and email address, all other information in a referee profile is optional. Once your referees have been created, you can generate their passwords either one at a time by selecting Yes when asked to reset and email password or, in bulk by importing your existing referees.

It's recommended that your referee system is set up completely before providing passwords to your referees; until things like venues and availability date range are set up, referees won't have anything to do when logging in to their profiles. Rather than have them login before you have preferences available for them to set, generate and email passwords in bulk when you're ready for them to start providing you with their preferences.

This FAQ assumes that you have already Set Referee Titles. Set Referee Titles is the first step of setting up your referee system and must be completed before adding assignors, referees and pay rates. For more information on setting referee titles, click here.
